07 Jul 2016: Working on my speed

The last 2 weeks have been very hot here in Houston.  It’s miserable to go outside and run, so I’ve been running inside on the treadmill.  I’m trying to increase my speed by using the C25K app by Zen Labs.

So far the workouts have been good.  The day before yesterday, I completed the Week 2, Day 2 workout.   The walk run segments for Week 2 are on the short side, 90 seconds run to 2 minutes walking, but I’m trying to maintain a speed faster than 5.0 mph during the running intervals.   AND just to make it difficult on myself, I’m pushing the run intervals as the workout progresses.

The Week 2, Day 2 workout has 6 run/walk intervals not including warm-up and cool-down.  During the first 2 run/walk intervals, I ran at 5.2 mph and walked at 3.0 mph.  During the next 2 internals, I ran at 5.3 and 5.4 mph.  And on the last 2 intervals, my run interval was at 5.5 mph.  I figured that I might as well work on negative splits if I’m determined to go faster.

Maybe all I’m doing is more speed workouts…but at least I’m inside in the air conditioning while I’m doing them.  Tomorrow’s run will be with my Saturday Luke’s Locker group – but outside!  Hope I survive the heat!
