22 Jun 2016: New goals to the end of the year

Now that I’ve run the Tinkerbell 10k and the NYRR mini-10k, I do not have any new races on the horizon.  That got me thinking about new running goals.  Certainly I would like to learn how to run faster and longer without stopping.  The hard part is how do I do that?  Almost everything that I’ve read says that I simply need to train harder and run more.  Is it that easy?  I’m not so sure.

I talked about this with my sister a little bit while we were in New York.  I was wondering whether re-doing a Couch to 5k program now would have any benefits in getting me to run better and faster.   She suggested that I start my workout with the C25K workout and then finish with whatever mileage still remains to complete 3 miles.

So I tried that yesterday…well kind of…  I completed Week 1, Day 1 of C25K and then continued run/walking until I finished my workout. Unfortunately I only completed 2.25 miles instead of my normal 3 miles!

  1. With the weather, it can make a big difference. Are you drinking enough water before you run (like the day/night before)? You don’t want it slogging around in your tummy while running but you need to be well-hydrated with the heat.
