About me

I started running in October 2015 when I was 53 years old.   At first I could barely run 100 yds, but I kept at it – running then walking, then running some more.  I started running to surprise my sister (hence the Covert Runner blog name).  She was training for a Disney challenge (10k + 1/2 marathon).  I wanted to run the 10k portion of the challenge with her.  My sister found out I was running with her when we picked up our race bibs!

I ran my first 5k on Thanksgiving Day 2015, although I took several walk breaks.  Two years later, I can now usually run 3 miles SLOWLY without stopping but I’ve still never run an entire 5k with a walk break.  I’m going to try and do that in 2018.  I’m also going to see if I can do a 10k this year without stopping.

When I started running, I found only a few blogs that talked about older women running for the first time  and mostly the blogs were written by younger women or women already capable of running half or full marathons.   Certainly none of the runners were running as slowly as me!   I hope that my blog will eventually inspire other women to try running.
