Running

19 April 2016: Only 17 days…

In 17 days, I will tell my sister that I’m running the Tinker Bell 10K with her.  My sister will learn that I’ve:

  • Spent 200 days learning how to run
  • Logged over 200 miles
  • Ran through cold, rain, heat & humidity
  • Completed four 5ks and one 10k, and,
  • that I’m going to run with her through the CINDERELLA’s CASTLE!!

My plan is to head over to packet pick-up with my sister.  I want to visit the expo and pick up our family Cheer Squad tickets for the half-marathon.  Then when she goes to get her race packet – I’ll get mine too!   Hopefully we can catch her surprise on camera!

But back to the task at hand…my training…

The last 2 days in Houston have been horrible weather.  Across the city, rainfall of 10-15 inches fell, schools and roads were closed and businesses shut down…still training must go on.  So when there was a lull in the rain and thunderstorms, I ventured out for today’s training run at Memorial Park.  My goal was a 5k run.  Temperatures were in the high 70s with 80% humidity.  But all in all, I did okay.  I finished my run in 43:30 which is a 13.87 pace.  Not too fast, but I didn’t push it either.  I jogged the first mile without stopping, then ran/walk the final 2 miles.  It was like breathing steam.  Thank goodness, the TinkerBell is in California where the humidity will be low and the temps should be in the low 60s when we run. Currently rain is not in the forecast, so it may be near perfect weather – fingers crossed!
