3 Dec 2017: Negative splits for the first time

Today was a Sunday run with my friend Shelley at Memorial Park.  The weather was perfect.  Low 60s, sunny and the park was crowded.  It still hasn’t sunk in that I can actually run completely around the park without stopping, even though I’ve done it now several times!

We started out walking a bit and then began to jog.  For some reason it didn’t feel too difficult and I was doing pretty well until the small dip about the 1/2 way mark.  I told myself just keep going and it helped that we were keeping up a conversation.   Then for some reason, the run just got easier.  I’ve heard that it happens, but it’s never happened to me – but it didn’t last long.  We passed the area where we started and I told Shelley that I wanted to keep going until we reached 3.1 miles (a 5k).  (The running path is actually around 2.9 miles but I’ve heard that they are going to change it so that it will be 3 miles.)

When I got home, I downloaded my run to my ipad and I was very surprised.  It was the fastest training run ever and the first time that I’ve ever had negative splits!!   I didn’t think that it was possible!  Yay me!
