13 Nov 2016: A milestone running day!

Today was a milestone run.  I’ve run at Memorial Park now for almost a year.  Its a little less than 3 miles around the park.  Ever sense we moved to Houston in 2008, I’ve walked at the park and envied all the runners that could run the loop instead of walk it.

TODAY I RAN COMPLETELY AROUND THE LOOP WITHOUT STOPPING!!

It was incredible.  I can’t believe that I did it.  And then Shelley and I ran a second lap, stopping only a few times to walk.  I DID IT!!

For those who want to know what we did yesterday at the Luke’s Locker training class, we went back to the cloverleaf for time trials.  I walked over with Kathryn — she’s been gone the last month — so she wasn’t ready to run.  Then at the clover leaf Coach Joan had us run the entire loop (a little less than a mile) and she timed us.  I finished 2nd! at 11:04 (Wylie, of course, was first and Coach Julie was running with David).   Julie and David were ahead of me during the first and second 1/4 miles, but I passed them when David needed to walk during the third 1/4.   When I was running on the home stretch, I heard several people behind me and I pushed hard so that no one passed me.  Sometimes I get a bit competitive. Then we ran back to the store.  All in all a good class – about 3 miles total.

PS.  Its finally getting cooler here.  Today’s run weather was the low 60s – thank goodness.  Maybe that’s why I was able to keep running.  For the next couple of months it should be easier to run longer.
