Fastest run…Yesterday was my weekly run with my friend Shelley at Memorial Park. I was a little out of sorts because we usually run in the morning, but we had to postpone to the late afternoon. Running later in the day is harder for me as I really don’t know what to eat before a later run. My normal routine is to have a piece of toast with almond butter about 30-45 minutes before I run, but yesterday I had all day to eat! Several times my stomach felt a little strange during my run, but fortunately I didn’t toss my cookies!!
I watched my TomTom GPS watch as we were running and I saw that we were keeping our run below a 12:30 pace. I felt pretty good but occasionally got a little breathless. Not enough to stop me from running but it was enough to know that I was working a little harder than normal. Having a running buddy that is faster than me helps me keep going. Shelley mentioned that she thought we were running more slowly than normal, but I assured her that it was better than the last time we ran together before the holidays.
On the last stretch, however, I had to call it quits. All of a sudden I felt like I was going to embarrass myself by throwing up! I don’t know why it came on so suddenly but I simply told Shelley that I needed to stop and walk. Fortunately we were able to get 2.7 miles completed, but I wish that I could have continued and finished a 3 mile run. We walked the rest of the way to complete the circuit and I felt better pretty quickly. I stopped my watch, however, when we started walking as I really try and just track my running (and not my walking), unless I have to walk in the middle of a run.
To my surprise, when I downloaded the run – it was my fastest run time yet! That means that I’m slowly but surely improving. How funny is it that I really love to see those trophies!! The trophies are not real, but they sure are motivating! I love when I see the trophy show up on my summary run stats!!
