This past week, I decided I needed get some honest feedback on my blog. I posted on the Facebook group “Slow Runners Community” asking members to to read my blog and provide some honest feedback. This was difficult for me because I know that I needed some feedback but it’s scary putting my writing out there, knowing that it won’t be just my family or friends reading my blog anymore. I was happy to see supportive comments and even some very good critical feedback! I’ve decided to take this feedback seriously and put a little more effort into my blog! Thank you very much, my Slow Runners Community friends, especially Kevin B, Suzanne T & Charlie M. (And if any of my readers want to join a motivating FB community of slow runners, this is the group.)
Weekly running recap: Getting back into the swing of things after my vacation has been a little difficult. We had freezing weather here in Houston for several days and I just couldn’t get myself outside to run until it warmed up! I finally found my motivation on Wednesday, Jan 3rd and went to my yoga class. Fortunately most of the students were also just getting back from vacation so the instructor spent most of the class on deep stretching. I need to keep working on getting more flexibility in my hip flexors. I can really see the difference from one side to the other and I’m sure its affecting my running.
On Thursday, the cold front broke and I finally went out for a run around Memorial Park. Noting felt right during this run and during the second half of the run I stopped several times for walk breaks. I know that the holiday broke my training rhythm but I was surprised to feel like I was starting over again when I ran. And when I looked at my TomTom at my first walk break, I realized that I stopped my watch, so I had to start it up again. That NEVER happens! So when I finished the loop and saw my car, I just called it quits. I usually try and go a little further to complete 3.1 miles, but I just couldn’t do it. When I got home and downloaded my run (actually 2 runs since I had to restart my watch 1/2 way around), I realized that I had simply pushed myself too hard at the beginning. My first mile was at a 12:06 pace!! That is much faster than I normally run. No wonder why I was so tired during the second half. The TomTom trophy for my “Fastest short run” made me happy.
