Today was one of my best running days of the last few months. I didn’t get started very early, but luckily it wasn’t too hot outside. I drove over to Memorial Park intending to take it easy and just get a 3 mile run in.
I felt good when I started and figured that I would probably stop 1/2 way for some water and a quick walk break. I kept up my slow pace and each time that I wanted to stop I pushed myself. About mile 2, I really wanted to stop. Just then my friend Shelley ran up to me and I wasn’t expecting to see her. I told her that I hadn’t stopped yet and she and I just started chatting. Before I knew it, I had passed my starting point. A little further and Shelley asked me – “Where did you start?” I replied, “Back there!” indicating behind us. I kept going until I had run a full 5k!
After Shelley joined me, it turned into a very good run. Yes, I was tired. Yes, I wanted to stop. BUT I didn’t! I realized that this was only the 3rd time that I had ever completed a full lap around Memorial Park without stopping. I couldn’t wait to check my TomTom to see how I did.
Here’s my run – note that it is my 3rd fastest 5k EVER – or at least of the 5k’s where I wore my running watch. (If I had only run 11 seconds faster, it could have been my 2nd best time!) So all in all, a very good running day.
