Life has been crazy busy the last few months. I’ve kept up with running at least one 5k per month, but the last two months my overall running has slowed down quite a bit. As the weather gets warmer I find that I just don’t like being outside in the heat. Since I absolutely HATE the treadmill, it means that I suffer either way. Unfortunately what happens is that I simply don’t run…period…unless I absolutely have to.
SO – now that I’ve confessed that I hate running in the heat. How are my 2018 running goals going?
- PR in a 5k: DONE. I PR’d during the Houston Wellness Project 5k on January 28th. I also placed 3rd in my age group and ran the entire 5k without a single walk break (yay me!). Then I PR’d again on Apr 14, 2018 in the Houston Timbergrove Run the Grove 5k. I consider this goal done and dusted!
- PR in a 10k: DONE. On February 24th, I PR’d at the Houston Rodeo Run 10k. I cut off about 5 minutes of my 10k time!
- Run at least 365 miles this year: Currently I’ve logged 157 miles this year which is right on track since today is Day 155. And as I’ve already told you, the summer is the worst time for me to get in the miles. I hate running in Houston in the summer!
As for my training, I’ve joined the Houston Fit training for both the Fall and Winter programs. I’ve only made 2 of the runs so far, but I’ve got to push myself. The first few weeks my group wasn’t running on Tuesdays or Thursdays, but now I don’t have any more excuses since they have both AM and PM runs during the week. I am also running with my friend still on Sundays, so I “could” get 4 runs in per week (if I would just “get off the couch”!).
OK. Enough whining about the heat and not wanting to run. I hereby promise to myself (and my blog readers) that I will faithfully run at least 3x this week!! There…another goal. Wish me luck!
