15 May 2016: 8 days later and I haven’t run a single step!

The Tinkerbell 10k was 8 days ago.  While I had intended to take a few days off from training, as of today I have not run a single step.  I was hit hard by a sinus infection/cold a few days after the 10k and I’m still recuperating.  I’m coughing, my ears are filled with fluid and I’m generally really really tired.

I’ve done a little web research and I’ve learned that post-race, there are things that I should have done to help prevent this from happening. Apparently after a “long run” or increased exertion, the body’s immune system isn’t as active as it should be.   While the 10k itself wasn’t too difficult, we were pretty active walking at the Disney parks and my sleep patterns were definitely interrupted since we had to get up so early both days (for the 10k and the half marathon).  All this was “out of the norm” and I didn’t eat as healthy as I should have nor did I take my vitamins.
