Okay, so who’s bright idea was it to make everyone get up so early to run a 10k at Disneyland! My alarm went off at 3:40, but I was awake many times before that. Fortunately I had prepped a bit the day before, saving a bagel & peanut butter from the breakfast buffet and setting out my running clothes so I could just get dressed and go.
Since we were at the Hampton we caught the 4am ART shuttle from the Embassy Suites next door to the parks. The bus driver was a little miffed when we boarded without a special pass. Apparently we were supposed to pick up a bus pass at the Expo, not just use our race bibs. Fortunately he let us stay on the bus. Once we got to the park, it was a long, long, walk from the bus stop, through Downtown Disney, through security to the corrals. We went directly to bag check when it started to drizzle. NONE of us had any rain gear, but my extra gear bag made a nice hat for my sister!
Since I was the newbie in Corral E and my sister and niece had better corrals, they lined up with me. We were pretty close to the front in the last corral and so we had over an hour to stand in the rain and wait. By the time we started moving around 5:30am, it was starting to get light and I couldn’t believe all the people that were lined up! And fortunately the rain had stopped.
We found out later that over 8000 people ran the Tinkerbell 10k that day!
The first two miles were on Anaheim Streets but we entered Disney just before Mile 2. Every time we saw a big door my sister picked up the pace!
My favorite part was running through the castle with my sister and niece! Fortunately a Disney photographer was just on the other side so we got a great picture!
Mile 3 brought us down the main street of California.
Then Mile 4 was an amazing view that didn’t seem real!
Mile 5 led us past the fun carnival type rides.
And before we knew it – Mile 6 crept up on us and the finish line was in sight! We joined hands and we were done!
We did it!! I loved running the 10k with my sister and my niece!!
It was a lot of fun doing it together!
